How Blossom scoring works

  • Words must be at least four letters and include the center letter; letters may repeat.
  • Four-letter words score 2, five-letter words 4, six-letter words 6, seven-letter words 12, and each extra letter adds 3 more.
  • Each turn highlights a bonus petal; every use of that letter adds 5 points.
  • A pangram (a word using all seven letters) earns 7 extra points.
  • You only get twelve words, so each one has to count.

Strategy for a high score

  • Save your best words for matching bonus petals. A long word packed with the bonus letter can be worth double.
  • Find the pangrams early so you can plan which turn to play them on.
  • Prefer length. Because the scale jumps at seven letters, one eight-letter word beats several short ones.
  • Use the bonus selector. On this page you can pick any petal as the bonus and the list re-sorts by score, mirroring the decision you face in the game.

Blossom FAQ

Who makes Blossom?

Blossom is a word game from Merriam-Webster. We are an independent site.

Can I use a letter twice?

Yes. Letters can be reused as often as you like, as long as every word includes the center letter.

Why is your word list longer than the game's?

When the official list isn't available we compute every valid word from our dictionary. The game may reject a few rare words, so favour familiar ones.
