How Octordle works

Type a five-letter word and it is scored on all eight boards at once. Each board colours its own tiles, and a solved board stops taking guesses. In Classic mode you have 13 guesses; the total number used across all boards is your score, so solving early boards quickly matters.

Daily modes include Classic, Chill (more guesses), Extreme (fewer), Sequence (boards open in order) and Rescue (start from pre-filled guesses).

Octordle strategy

  • Front-load your coverage. Three openers that test fifteen distinct letters give every board a head start.
  • Triage the boards. Rank them by how many candidates remain and finish the one-option boards first.
  • Combine information. A letter that's grey on one board may be green on another, so look across boards before choosing a guess.
  • Use a tracker. Our Octordle solver keeps candidate lists for all eight boards.
