Words With Friends looks like Scrabble, but several differences change which words are worth playing:
The finder applies WWF tile values to every result, so the points you see match what the app will show before bonus squares.
Words With Friends started from ENABLE, a public-domain word list of about 173,000 words, and that is the list this finder uses by default. Zynga has edited the in-game dictionary over the years, adding some newer words and slang and removing a few offensive ones. A small number of words may therefore be accepted in the app but missing here, or the other way round. For example, QI and ZA are not in the original ENABLE list, so they don't show up with this dictionary even though both are valid in Scrabble. If you suspect a newer word, switch to All English words to see it, then try it in the app.
Look for spots where a letter multiplier and a word multiplier fall in the same move. Put your J, Q, X or Z on the letter multiplier and let a short word carry it. Jo, ax, ox and xu are all in the WWF list and fit almost anywhere.
Laying a word alongside another so that every touching pair forms a valid two-letter word scores several words at once. Learn the two-letter words. They are what make parallel plays possible.
An S or a blank that only adds a few points is often better saved for a bingo or for hooking a big word for a double score. The 35-point bonus is smaller than in Scrabble, but it still decides close games.
Aim to keep two or three vowels after your move. A rack like ADEINRS plus a blank can make hundreds of words. A rack of five consonants can make almost none. When your rack is hopeless, swapping costs you one turn but may save the next three.
The Word checker tab at the top of the page tells you at once whether a word is in the Words With Friends list, in both Scrabble lists and in Wordle. It also shows the score in each game and a short definition. It's a quick way to settle "is that really a word?" before you play, or after your opponent does. For checking a long list at once, use the standalone word checker.
Words With Friends 2 kept the classic game's tile values, bag and dictionary, and added solo challenges, events and lightning rounds. Everything on this page applies to both. If you also play similar mobile games, see our helpers for Word Chums, Wordfeud and Word Wars.
