How to use the Octordle solver

  1. Add the word you played. Type it and press Enter; it is copied onto all eight boards.
  2. Set the colours on each unsolved board. Tap a tile to cycle grey, yellow and green. Greens you already found on a board carry over to new guesses.
  3. Check the boards. Each one lists the likely answers that remain. A board with no matches has a colour mistake somewhere.
  4. Play the best combined guess, or lock in a board that has only one word left.

Why eight boards need a different strategy

In Octordle every guess is scored on eight boards at once, so a guess is only as good as its total effect. The solver adds up, board by board, how many words each candidate guess is expected to leave. A word that barely helps one board but splits five others wide open will rank above a coin-flip guess at a single board.

The arithmetic is unforgiving: with 13 guesses and 8 boards, you can afford about five guesses that do not solve anything. Use them early, while every board still has hundreds of candidates and the information is worth the most.

Octordle tips

  • Open with three complementary words. Covering 15 different common letters usually leaves most boards with a handful of candidates.
  • Clear forced boards promptly. A board with one possible word costs exactly one guess, and that guess still colours the other seven boards.
  • Watch for twins. Two boards sometimes end up with overlapping candidate lists. A word that is a candidate on both is worth double.
  • Don’t forget repeated letters. Answers like GEESE or LLAMA appear. If a board shows no matches, check whether a grey tile should have been yellow.

Octordle Solver FAQ

How many guesses do I get in Octordle?
Classic Octordle gives you 13 guesses for eight boards. Chill mode is more forgiving and Extreme is stricter, so choose your mode in the solver to make the guess counter match your game.
Do I really have to colour eight boards for every guess?
Only the unsolved ones. Solved boards stop updating, and tiles that were green in the same spot on a board are filled in automatically. When a board has a single word left and you play it, the solver marks it solved for you.
What is the best way to start an Octordle?
Spend your first two or three guesses on wide letter coverage, for example ROATE followed by a word with five new letters such as LINDS. With eight boards, the information from each early guess is multiplied eight times.
Why does the solver suggest a word that solves no board?
Because it is expected to remove the most candidates in total across all unsolved boards. Early on that beats guessing one board. As soon as a board is down to one word, it appears under “Ready to lock in”.
Is the board order the same as in the game?
Number the boards however you like, as long as you keep the same order for every guess. Most players read them left to right, top to bottom.
Is there a version for four boards?
Yes, the Quordle solver handles four boards and nine guesses.
