How the Sports Edition differs
The rules match regular Connections: pick four words that share a link, and you can make four mistakes. The difference is the word pool: every tile comes from the world of sport, from star players and nicknames to rules, equipment, stadiums and famous moments.
Because the puzzles lean on trivia, the colour ladder (yellow, green, blue, purple) can feel different from the classic game. A purple group might hinge on wordplay with team names, while blue might ask you to know which players wore the same number.
Tips for sports grids
- Think beyond the obvious sport. "Eagles", "Giants" and "Jets" are teams in more than one league. Ask which sport the other tiles point to.
- Look for shared jargon. Terms like "eagle", "ace" or "love" belong to golf, tennis and more, which makes them a classic setup for a mixed category.
- Check name tricks. Surnames that are also everyday words, or nicknames that hide animals or colours, are frequent purple material.
- Use the hint ladder. Our hints go hint → category → individual words, so one nudge can rescue a streak without spoiling the rest.
Connections: Sports Edition FAQ
When does the Sports Edition reset?
Like the main game, a new puzzle is ready at midnight in your local time zone.
Do I need to be a sports expert?
It helps, but each puzzle usually has one or two groups that reward general knowledge or wordplay rather than stats. Our step-by-step hints fill the gaps.
Is it the same as regular Connections?
The rules are the same; only the theme is different. You can find hints for the original game on our Connections hints page.
