Spelling Bee Solver

Type the seven hive letters (the centre one goes in the yellow cell) and get every word, the pangrams, your point total and the rank ladder.

0/7 letters · the yellow centre letter is required

Independent tool, not affiliated with The New York Times. Our word lists are broader than the puzzle’s own list.

How to use the Spelling Bee solver

Enter the puzzle’s centre letter in the yellow hexagon, then the six surrounding letters in any order. You can type straight through: the cursor jumps to the next empty cell, duplicates are refused and arrow keys move around the hive. Press Solve the hive and every word that follows the rules appears, grouped by length with pangrams on top.

To keep some challenge, use the Hint grids tab instead of the answer list. It tells you how many words start with each letter at each length, plus the two-letter starts, so you know what to look for without seeing the words themselves.

Spelling Bee rules in a nutshell

  • Words must be at least four letters long and include the centre letter.
  • Only the seven hive letters may be used, but any letter can repeat.
  • Four-letter words score 1 point; longer words score their length.
  • A pangram uses all seven letters and adds a 7-point bonus.
  • Proper nouns, hyphenated words and obscure or offensive terms are not part of the official list.

Strategies that find more words

Start with the pangram: look for common endings such as -ING, -TION, -MENT or -ABLE that fit the hive and build backwards. Then work through prefixes and suffixes you can add to words you already have (RE-, UN-, -ED, -ER). Doubling letters helps too: if you found TOOL, check TOOT and LOOT. Finally, use the rank table to see how far you are from Genius and whether a long word is worth the hunt.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the official Spelling Bee answer list?
No. WordFinderZ is an independent, unofficial helper and is not affiliated with The New York Times. The daily puzzle uses its own hand-picked word list, which leaves out obscure, offensive and many technical words. Turn on Common words only for results that are much closer to what the puzzle accepts.
How are Spelling Bee points counted?
A four-letter word is worth 1 point. Longer words score one point per letter, so a six-letter word earns 6. A pangram (a word that uses all seven letters at least once) earns its length plus a 7-point bonus.
How are the rank thresholds calculated?
Each rank is a fixed share of the puzzle’s total points: Good Start at 2%, Moving Up 5%, Good 8%, Solid 15%, Nice 25%, Great 40%, Amazing 50% and Genius 70%. Finding every word earns Queen Bee. Because our total is based on our word list, treat the numbers as a close estimate.
What is a perfect pangram?
A pangram that uses each of the seven letters exactly once, so it is exactly seven letters long. Not every puzzle has one; the solver marks them for you.
Can I get hints without seeing the answers?
Yes. Open the Hint grids tab: it shows how many words start with each letter at each length and the two-letter starts, the same kind of clues the official hints page gives, without spelling out any word.
Can letters be used more than once?
Yes. Every word must contain the centre letter and may only use the seven hive letters, but each letter can repeat as often as you like. Words must be at least four letters long.
