How Bracket City works
Every clue sits inside square brackets, and clues can sit inside other clues. You can only answer a bracket once everything inside it is solved. Type the right answer and it replaces the bracket, which often turns the surrounding text into a brand-new clue. Keep going until the whole sentence, often an "on this day" fact, reads cleanly.
The game rewards solving without help: peeking at the first letter or revealing an answer costs you points, and your final rank reflects how much assistance you used.
Strategies
- Scan for the easiest inner clue. You don't have to go left to right. Any innermost bracket is fair game.
- Read the outer clue early. Even unfinished, it can tell you what kind of answer the inner clue needs (a number, a name, a place).
- Expect wordplay. Clues often combine a fill-in-the-blank with a little trivia or a pun.
- Use our interactive copy. On this page, click any highlighted bracket to solve just that clue, or reveal single answers from the clue list.
Bracket City FAQ
Who publishes Bracket City?
Bracket City is a daily puzzle from The Atlantic. WordFinderZ is an independent fan resource.
Do I have to solve the clues in order?
No. Any innermost bracket can be solved at any time, and an outer bracket becomes solvable once everything inside it is completed.
Does revealing answers hurt my score?
In the game, yes. Peeks and reveals lower your rank. Our hints let you check one clue at a time instead.
