- 1
Pick a square
Tap or click any white square. The highlighted row or column is the answer you are filling, and its clue appears above the grid.
- 2
Type your answer
Letters fill left to right or top to bottom and the cursor moves on by itself. Tap the same square again (or press Enter) to switch between Across and Down.
- 3
Use the crossings
Every letter belongs to an Across word and a Down word. When a clue stumps you, solve the words that cross it and let their letters give you a start.
- 4
Check or reveal if stuck
Check marks wrong letters in a square, a word or the whole grid. Reveal fills in a letter or word. Auto-check flags mistakes as you type.
- 5
Finish and share
The puzzle is solved when every square is right. Your time and streak are saved on this device, and you can share your result without spoilers.

A crossword you can finish over coffee
Full-size crosswords are great when you have an hour. The Daily Mini is for the other moments: the bus ride, the wait in line, the first few minutes after you wake up. It is five squares by five, uses words you already know, and usually takes less time than reading the news headlines.
Each grid is built by our own puzzle engine. It picks a symmetric pattern of black squares, fills it with common English words and writes a clue for every answer. Because the fill is limited to familiar vocabulary, you won't need obscure crossword trivia, just a bit of lateral thinking.
Solving tips
- Start with the short answers. Three- and four-letter entries have fewer possibilities and give you letters for the long ones.
- Match the part of speech. A clue that reads like a verb ("Make level") wants a verb answer, and a plural clue usually wants a plural answer.
- Fill-in-the-blank clues are freebies. Clues in quotation marks with a ___ gap are often the fastest way into the grid.
- Don't fear a wrong guess. Type what you think fits and check a single word. A wrong letter costs less time than staring at an empty row.
- Race yourself, not the clock. Your best time is saved on this device, so every day is a chance to beat it.
