Catch up on any day you missed

A new 5×5 grid appears every day at midnight US Eastern time, and none of them expire. Tap any date on the calendar to open that day's puzzle with the same timer, Check and Reveal tools as today's game. Your letters are saved as you type, so you can leave a half-finished grid and come back to it next week.

The calendar reads your progress straight from this browser: solved days turn green, started ones turn amber, and days where you revealed the answer are grayed out. Older puzzles never affect your streak, which makes the archive a relaxed place to practice or to race your best time.

Make the most of the archive

  • Warm up on an older grid. Solving yesterday's puzzle first is a gentle way to get into the rhythm before today's clock starts.
  • Clear a week at a time. The activity panel counts your solves over the last seven days, so it's easy to see what's left.
  • Go clean. Try a whole month without Check or Reveal. Your share text says when you solved with no help.

For a nudge on a tricky entry, the crossword solver finds words that fit the letters you already have.

Mini archive FAQ

How far back does the Mini archive go?
All the way to puzzle #1, published on Thursday, October 1, 2026. Every daily grid since then stays playable, and a new one is added at midnight US Eastern time.
Do archive puzzles count toward my streak?
Your streak only grows when you solve a puzzle on its own day, so catching up later won't extend it. Archive solves do count toward your total of solved puzzles and can set a new best time.
Where is my progress stored?
In this browser's local storage. Nothing is sent to an account, so your calendar stays private, but it also doesn't follow you to another device. Clearing site data or using a private window starts the calendar from scratch.
What do the colors on the calendar mean?
Green squares with a check are puzzles you solved. Amber squares with a dashed circle are grids you started and can pick up where you left off. Gray squares with an eye are puzzles where you revealed the whole answer. White squares are waiting for you, and the yellow ring marks today.
Why does a puzzle I started show as not started?
Now and then we improve the puzzle generator, which can change the grid for a past day. When that happens, letters you typed into the old grid are set aside rather than poured into squares where they no longer belong, so that day starts fresh.
Can I play a random puzzle instead?
Yes. Unlimited mode builds a brand-new grid on demand, separate from the daily series. Each one has its own link, so you can send the exact puzzle to a friend.
