Why people write “speach”
Speech comes from the verb speak, and that is exactly the trap: speak is spelled with EA, but the noun switches to a double E. Both spellings make the same long E sound, so “speach” looks logical even though it is wrong.
Spell-checkers catch the mistake in a document, but not in a handwritten note, a text message or a word game. Writing the word out a few times while saying the tricky part aloud is the quickest way to make speech automatic.
