The rules

  • Words must be at least three letters long.
  • Consecutive letters in a word can't come from the same side of the square.
  • Each new word starts with the last letter of the previous word.
  • Letters can be reused; the goal is to use all twelve at least once.
  • The puzzle suggests a word limit (often five or six). Finishing in fewer words is the real bragging right, and most boards can be cleared in two.

How to find a two-word solution

  • Find a long word with awkward letters. Words that use the rarest letters on the board (J, Q, X, Z, V, K…) are hard to fit later, so build around them.
  • Plan the hand-off. Your first word's last letter must start the second word. Ending on a common starting letter such as S, T or P keeps your options open.
  • Count what's left. After your first word, list the unused letters; you need a single word that starts with the right letter and covers all of them.
  • Alternate sides. Because letters must hop between sides, words with alternating vowels and consonants tend to fit.

Our Letter Boxed solver lists every valid word and two-word solution for any board.

Letter Boxed FAQ

When does Letter Boxed reset?

A new box is published every day, typically around 3 a.m. Eastern Time.

Is there only one correct answer?

No. Any chain that uses all twelve letters within the word limit wins. The publisher shares its own solution the next day, and our page lists many alternatives.

Can I reuse a letter?

Yes, letters can appear more than once. They just can't come from the same side twice in a row within a word.
