How Pips works
Each day there are three boards: Easy, Medium and Hard. You get a set of dominoes and a board divided into coloured regions. Every domino must be placed, covering two neighbouring squares, and each region has a condition:
- A number means the pips in the region must add up to it.
- = means every square in the region shows the same number of pips.
- ≠ means no two squares in the region match.
- < or > means the region's total must be below or above the number.
Squares without a colour have no rule, but the domino covering them still has to fit somewhere.
Logic tips
- Start with the tightest regions. A single-square region with a sum, or a large "=" region, leaves very few options.
- Count your dominoes. If only one domino has a six, any region needing a six must use it.
- Think in halves. A domino can straddle two regions, so its two numbers can satisfy two different rules.
- Use the board's shape. Dead-end squares with only one neighbour force a domino's orientation.
- Work Easy → Hard. The easier boards teach the patterns you will need on Hard.
Pips FAQ
Do I have to place every domino?
Yes. A board is only solved when every domino is placed and every region's condition is met.
Are the three difficulties related?
No. Easy, Medium and Hard are separate puzzles with their own boards and dominoes. Our page has hints and solutions for each.
When does Pips reset?
New boards appear every day at midnight in your local time zone.
